About Us
What We Do
The future of Georgia lies in the hands of our children. More than 2.5 million children live in Georgia, making it the eighth largest child population in the country. And Georgia has one of the fastest growing pediatric populations with an additional 133,500 children expected in the next five years. However, the sad reality is Georgia consistently ranks poorly for child health and well-being. In 2009, we ranked 42nd in the nation in child well-being according to the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
On January 1, 2009, Georgia Children’s Health Alliance (GCHA) was formed to turn around this disappointing trend. A shared effort among public, private, not-for-profit, business and community sectors, the mission of GCHA is to improve the wellness of Georgia’s children by fostering a culture of statewide collaboration.
We know that healthy children with healthy habits are more likely to become healthy adults. That is why we formed GCHA, which unites pediatric health experts and resources from across the state to help create healthier futures for our children. The initial focus areas for the Alliance include healthy births, childhood obesity, and child abuse and neglect.
